## What's Changed
* SoundFont2 (SF2) rendering support via TinySoundFont. Enabled by default,
cmake configuration: `WANT_SF2=ON`. Pass either an `.sf2` file, or a config
  file with a `soundfont` directive to WildMidi_Init().
* Built-in OPL3 FM softsynth using the Nuked OPL3 emulator. Pass `@opl3` to
WildMidi_Init(), or use the player's `-O/--opl3` switch to play MIDI files
without any patch, soundfont, or bank files. The GM voice bank is embedded
  in the library.
* GENMIDI (OP2) FM bank support: an `.op2` bank, such as the one shipped
with Doom, can be given to WildMidi_Init() in place of a config file, and
is rendered through the OPL3 emulator.
* HMP and HMI to MIDI converters: WildMidi_ConvertToMidi() and the player's
`-x/--tomidi` switch now convert HMP and HMI files in addition to XMI and
  MUS (bug #181).
* Support for playing and converting compressed (\mangled\) HMP files as
shipped by Gremlin Interactive games such as Fatal Racing / Whiplash.
* Fix XMI looping / wrong duration issues (bug #149.)
* Fix GUS patch handling to obey scale frequency and scale factor (bug #264.)
* Find and use a GUS patch with neareset patchid in case of missing patches:
349_Jesu_meiner_Freuden_Freude.mid, for e.g., now plays well with alternative
patches instead of producing silence. (thanks to Yotam Medini, PR #254)
* Discard extraneous end-of-track events in Type 1 MIDI files: Fixes certain
midis from Rise of the Triad looping too soon. (thanks to Clownacy, PR #263)
* Fix infinite loop when looping empty channels. (thanks to Clownacy, PR #263)
* Fix certain notes ending too soon and excessive echo/reverb/sustain issues
  (bugs #229 and #230.)
* Fix certain midis having breaks (bug #158.)
* Support spaces in config files using quoted strings.
* Hardened event-pool and mix-buffer growth against realloc failure across the
Linear/Gauss/SF2 renderers; the event-setup helpers now propagate allocation
errors instead of writing past the buffer.
* Fix a possible double-free on library shutdown.
* Fix player WAV writer not closing its output properly (0.4.6 bug)
* Security hardening across the file parsers.
* Assorted overflow guards.
* Added Zig bindings (thanks to Simon Hartcher, PR #260)
* Cmake build system fixes, other minor fixes/clean-ups.

2026.08.02
  - Debugger: normalize 16-bit segmented offsets for address display/lookup and
avoid false \[illegal]\ memory operand reports in AnalyzeInstruction()
    (cimarronm)
  - Fixed character rendering and mouse cursor display in DOS/V Japanese mode.

  - Fixed build error of OSFREE release builds (maron2000)
  - Added floppy BPB sanity check, and rearranged existing floppy BPB check code
    (maron2000)
  - Fixed window resizing (OpenGL, SDL2) (misty7666)
  - Updated Nuked-OPL3-fast to v1.8-fast.3 (tgies)
  - Added support for nested subdirectories in Z drive (maron2000)
  - Added experimental \ethnet\ command and protocol for NE2000 emulation. Instead
of using the pcap promiscious mode, which doesn't work over Wi-fi, a client
server setup can be configured to emulate a private lan between instances of
DOSBox-X either on localhost or on the local area network. The ethnet command
is deliberately built so that client and server set up is the same command
structure as the \ipx\ command used to set up an IPX network in DOSBox and
    DOSBox-X. (joncampbell123)
  - FAT driver performance improvements, at least for directory enumeration,
file creation, reading, and writing (joncampbell123).
  - Added PC3270 and Olivetti machine types (firevaran).
  - Fixed fatDrive error paths so truncated boot-sector reads no longer look
like successful mounts, and early returns now close diskfile handles
    instead of leaking them. (cimarronm)
  - INT 33h: In PC-98 mode, do not maintain a hide/show display count to match
    real mouse driver behavior (nanshiki),

Fix (one) Hatari window mouse sync issue
If user moves mouse outside the window while mouse button is pressed,
SDL leave event comes only after mouse is released, and mouse coords
can be wildly outside the window area => constraint stored leave
coords (used for mouse location syncing on mouse enter) to the Hatari
window size.
This still leaves the issue with Atari borders and Hatari statusbar.
Host mouse can move over those, but Atari cursor cannot, so those also
cause mouse pointer to go out of sync a bit. I don't see any good
solution for that, so it may be best just to tell users either to use
mouse grab / fullscreen, or disable borders & statusbar, if that
bothers them.,

netplay: do not announce a pause a server has forbidden
A server running with pausing disabled answers NETPLAY_CMD_PAUSE from a
client with a NAK and hangs the connection up, and the client sent that
command for any frontend pause at all. Pushing the Quick Menu parks the
runloop for a single frame, which is the path both opening the menu and
opening the chat prompt take, so a client on such a server lost the
connection the instant it opened either.
A client whose server disallows pausing now keeps the announcement to
itself. Its local_paused stays clear with it, so the resume that
netplay_pre_frame would send off the back of the pause is suppressed in
the same stroke, and a server that permits pausing still receives the
command exactly as before.

Don't reattach jumping entities to pushers
QuakeC clears FL_ONGROUND when players and leaping monsters take off. A pusher running later in the same frame could reconstruct support geometrically, restore the ground state, and freeze a fiend's pounce.
Honor that release for recent support records while keeping initial support detection geometry-based for entities whose ground state is unreliable.,

engine: server: don't exempt the local client from the snapshot rate limiter on a multiplayer listenserver
The same exemption exists on the server side: the loopback client gets FCL_SEND_NET_MESSAGE
set every frame regardless of next_messagetime, so pfnUpdateClientData and pfnGetWeaponData,
which run once per snapshot from SV_WriteClientdataToMessage, are called at the host's frame
rate instead of at cl_updaterate. Restrict it to singleplayer, which is what it was meant for.
sv_main.c already gates the same cvar on svs.maxclients == 1 in both places it uses it.,

microVU: reverse the fused blend-OR into the event spill -- flag front closes at zero
The last seam was one more lane-order convention: the saturation
spill is stored reversed to suit the flag block's movmsk/shl path
(which is why the plain ops closed), while the fused blends OR'd
their mul-overflow mask in architectural order, mirroring blend
lanes within the mac nibble -- the exact both-direction per-lane
flip pattern the correlation peek showed, on fused ops only. With
the mask reversed for the OR and restored for the value blend,
every flag column on every measured op is zero: the front that
opened at 34 to 379 divergent cases per op on the adversarial
distribution ends at complete zero, status and mac alike, with
default emission byte-identical and 300 frames under both options
pixel-identical.
This was the campaign's final open rig-side item. VU values exact,
VU flags exact, EE table complete, both processors priced; what
remains is hardware minutes and promotion decisions.
Emitter gate: 36 TUs, 0 failing.,

build: use vcpkg overlay if unset
The binary packages are built from the ports in
visualboyadvance-m/vcpkg-overlay, so a build consuming them has to
resolve against the same ports. Against vcpkg's own tree every port the
overlay carries reads as a different version -- wxWidgets 3.3.3 where
the package says 3.3.4-17 -- and the upgrade that follows an incomplete
binary install rebuilds it from source, along with whatever it depends
on. Nothing in the build asked for that; it followed from resolving
against a different set of ports than the one the packages were made
from.
Fetch the overlay into the build directory and name it in
VCPKG_OVERLAY_PORTS, unless the environment already names one: anyone
with a checkout of it keeps theirs, the nightly builder included. Only
download when the remote head differs from the extracted commit, the way
the vcpkg-binpkg tool is handled -- a branch archive carries no version
to stamp, so nothing else would ever refresh it -- and keep the
extracted copy when the remote cannot be reached.
VCPKG_OVERLAY_TRIPLETS goes to triplets/community rather than triplets.
vcpkg gives its own tree that split for free but does not recurse into
an overlay's, and community is where the overlay's only triplet,
riscv64-android, lives.
