Beyond the inline findings, I also checked two parts of the new lifetime: releasing an off profiler at the end of Heap::deleteAllCodeBlocks (runs after completeAllJITPlans() with no CodeBlock left to point into it), and TypeProfilerLog::clear() resetting the entry pointer while a concurrent marker may be visiting the log (the visit only walks up to the pointer it reads, so a reset to the start cannot run it past the end). Neither turned up a bug.
Extended reasoning...
The change rewires VM::TypeProfiler/TypeProfilerLog/ControlFlowProfiler ownership so profilers survive a disable until all code is deleted, and adds lazy re-creation in CodeBlock::finishCreation plus clear() paths on re-enable; it touches no injection, auth or data-exposure surface. Three inline findings are posted, so the ruled-out note is the only body content.

The revised commit addresses the three points from my earlier review: entries logged while the profiler is off are now dropped in TypeProfilerLog::processLogEntries, and disableTypeProfiler clears the log and every TypeLocation's instruction and global TypeSet, so nothing stale or off-time reaches a later session or pruneDeadReferences.
Beyond the inline nit, I also checked that releaseProfilersThatAreOff() runs after completeAllJITPlans() and after clearCode drops linked code in both ClearCode modes, so the TypeProfilerLog pointer cached in baseline and DFG code (JITOpcodes.cpp, DFGSpeculativeJIT.cpp) cannot outlive the log; and that the remaining typeProfiler()/controlFlowProfiler() callers in JSC (JIT.cpp, DFGDriver.cpp, InspectorRuntimeAgent, ProgramExecutable, CyclicModuleRecord) all mean "is it on", so the new nullptr-while-off semantics do not change them. A human look is still worthwhile given this changes profiler lifetime in VM and Heap.
Extended reasoning...
The change touches VM.h/VM.cpp profiler lifetime, Heap::deleteAllCodeBlocks, CodeBlock::finishCreation, TypeProfilerLog, TypeSet, and ControlFlowProfiler, plus two new stress tests and $vm toggles. It touches no security-sensitive surface. The single pushed commit after the prior review addresses the earlier inline concerns, and the remaining finding is a test-convention nit, but the lifetime change spans the GC constraints and all JIT tiers in core JSC code, so a human review is still appropriate rather than approval.

I re-reviewed the latest push and found no bugs; the points I raised inline on earlier versions are addressed in the code as pushed. Because this changes the profiler lifetime across VM, Heap::deleteAllCodeBlocks and the collector's log/type-set hooks, a human look would still be worthwhile.
What was reviewed:
- Every remaining typeProfiler()/controlFlowProfiler() caller is an "is it on" check (Heap marking constraint and pruneDeadReferences, JIT/DFG log flush, inspector agent, Program/Module executables); the three linking sites use the ForInstrumentedCode accessors after the ensure calls in CodeBlock::finishCreation.
- releaseProfilersThatAreOff() runs after completeAllJITPlans() and clearCode; KeepWhatNeedsParsing never keeps linked code, and baseline code with profile ops is unshareable, so nothing outlives its CodeBlock.
- Enable clears the log before the count goes non-zero, so the marking constraint never visits entries written while off; the disable-side cursor reset mirrors the pre-existing one in processLogEntries.
- The $vm toggles return early when the state already matches, so the module test's unconditional disable calls cannot trip the RELEASE_ASSERT on the enabled count.
Extended reasoning...
The change keeps TypeProfiler/TypeProfilerLog and ControlFlowProfiler alive after disable so pinned generator, async and top-level-await bodies can relink against them, clears the log and type sets on disable, drops log entries written while off, and destroys off profilers from Heap::deleteAllCodeBlocks; it touches VM.h/VM.cpp, Heap.cpp, CodeBlock.cpp, SymbolTable.cpp, TypeLocationCache.cpp, the profiler classes, JSDollarVM and two new stress tests. It touches no injection, auth or data-exposure surface. The latest commit addresses all four of my earlier inline points, and no new defect was found this run. It is not approved outright because it is an object-lifetime redesign across the VM, the heap's code deletion path and the collector's marking/pruning hooks, with concurrent-GC interactions that a JSC maintainer should weigh.
…the profilers and a client that disconnects The preview has oven-sh/WebKit#836, oven-sh/WebKit#830 and oven-sh/WebKit#837 on top of the WebKit commit that main pins. New tests: a vm.Script that runs twice in one global object, with a debugger, the type profiler and the control flow profiler turned on while its first generator is suspended. A generator and an async function that start under a profiler and resume after the profiler is turned off, and after the inspector client is gone.

VM::disableTypeProfiler() and VM::disableControlFlowProfiler() destroyed the profiler, and the caller then deleted all code. Not all code for the profiler goes away with that. The body of a generator or an async function, and a module that is suspended at a top-level await, keep the code generation mode they first ran in (ScriptExecutable::newCodeBlockFor), because a suspended body only resumes in code generated the same way. A body that started while a profiler was on is generated again with the profiler's instructions after the profiler is turned off. That code is linked against the profiler (CodeBlock::finishCreation, CodeBlock::insertBasicBlockBoundariesForControlFlowProfiler), so it dereferenced a null profiler. An inspector client that disconnects with the type profiler on is enough (InspectorRuntimeAgent::willDestroyFrontendAndBackend). The life of a profiler is now that of the code that points into it. - Turning a profiler off changes the enabled count and does not destroy the profiler. VM::typeProfiler() and VM::controlFlowProfiler() still return the profiler only while it is on, so every caller that uses them to ask "is it on" behaves as before: the collector does not visit the type profiler's log or prune its type sets, and nothing is flushed before a JIT compile. - The type profiler's log and type sets are emptied when it is turned off, and stay empty while it is off: what code for the profiler still writes into the log is dropped (TypeProfilerLog::processLogEntries). So no value is kept alive for a profiler nobody reads, and the type sets, which the SymbolTables own too and which outlive the profiler, never hold a Structure that nobody prunes or a type from an earlier time the profiler was on. - A profiler that is off is destroyed when all linked code has been deleted (Heap::deleteAllCodeBlocks), which is what every caller does right after a disable. No CodeBlock is left then, and the compilations are done. Destroying it inside the disable, as before, freed it under compilations that were still running. - Code with a profiler's instructions that is linked after that makes the profiler again (VM::ensure...ForInstrumentedCode() in CodeBlock::finishCreation). The sites that link such code ask for VM::typeProfilerForInstrumentedCode() and VM::controlFlowProfilerForInstrumentedCode(): CodeBlock, SymbolTable and TypeLocationCache. - Turning a profiler on while such code has kept one alive drops what that code wrote in between: the log, and the control flow profiler's execution counts (ControlFlowProfiler::clearExecutionCounts()). - JSGlobalObject::defaultCodeGenerationMode() reads the enabled counts. A VM that never turns a profiler on makes none, as before. After a type profiler session over 20,000 functions the footprint and the collection times return to what they are without this change (113 MB and 1.3 ms for an eden collection, against 210 MB and 11.5 ms when the profiler is kept for the life of the VM). $vm.setTypeProfilerEnabledWhenIdle(enabled) and $vm.setControlFlowProfilerEnabledWhenIdle(enabled, generateCodeAgain) do what the inspector's Runtime agent does for the four protocol commands. JSTests/stress/code-generated-for-a-profiler-runs-after-the-profiler-is-turned-off.js and JSTests/stress/module-that-started-under-a-profiler-resumes-after-the-profiler-is-turned-off.js crash without the change.

Only the sites that link instrumented bytecode use them:CodeBlock,SymbolTable,TypeLocationCache.Heap::pruneDeadReferences) and the log flush before a Baseline or DFG compile are unchanged: they do nothing while the profiler is off. That is safe because the log and the type sets are empty then. The disable empties both, andTypeProfilerLog::processLogEntriesdrops the entries that instrumented bytecode writes afterwards, without a read of them.Structurethat nobody prunes. The next enable starts with empty type sets, also for a variable whoseSymbolTableoutlived the profiler.CodeBlocks (emit_op_profile_typeandemit_op_profile_control_flowclearm_isShareable), so no JIT code outlives theCodeBlocks.TypeLocationandBasicBlockLocationobjects stay, because bytecode points at them.Measurements
