This PR was opened by the Changesets release GitHub action. When you're ready to do a release, you can merge this and the packages will be published to npm automatically. If you're not ready to do a release yet, that's fine, whenever you add more changesets to main, this PR will be updated.

Releases

effect-orpc@1.0.0

Major Changes

  • d7c00fc: migrate to effect-v4 (effect-smol)

Minor Changes

  • 3e203e9: Add Layer-based service provisioning: makeEffectORPC(...) and implementEffect(...) now accept a Layer in addition to ManagedRuntime. Builders can also start without a runtime and add base services later with .provide(layer).

Add request-scoped Effect providers with .provide(tag, provider) and .provideOptional(...), allowing procedures and downstream Effect middleware/handlers to access services derived from the current request context.

Add Effect-native generator middleware support to .use(function* ...), including access to Effect services, Effect errors, next(...), and output(...) from inside middleware.

Add reusable Effect-native middleware support to builder.middleware(function* ...), so generator middleware can be defined once, use provided Effect services, and be passed to .use(...).

Add contiguous Effect pipeline execution: adjacent Effect-native .provide*, generator .use(...), and .effect(...) steps now run inside a single runtime boundary instead of crossing the runtime for each step, while preserving ordering around native oRPC middleware.

Extend the existing Node FiberRef bridge to preserve FiberRefs across split Effect groups, including side-effect-only effect-orpc/node bridge installation.

  • 070f9aa: Add eos, the default Effect-aware builder for the eos.provide(AppLive) workflow. ManagedRuntime is now used only when you pass one explicitly, so applications can use Layer-provided builders by default and opt into a user-owned runtime when they need to control Layer acquisition and release from their application lifecycle.

  • 3ccdef0: Support Effect-returning callbacks everywhere Effect-native callbacks are accepted.

Handlers, request-scoped providers, optional providers, .use(...), and reusable .middleware(...) now accept Effect.fn(...) and functions returning Effect.gen(...) in addition to existing generator callbacks. Native oRPC middleware behavior is preserved, including return next(...) and guard-only middleware.

Named user spans from Effect.fn("name") and Effect.withSpan(...) are preserved inside the automatic procedure span.

Patch Changes

  • 19b48ed: Support latest effect-v4 version (4.0.0-beta.57)

  • f4a4deb: Support Effect 4.0.0-beta.98.

  • 2c5477e: Support latest effect-v4 beta version to date (4.0.0-beta.65)

  • 0c199ee: Support Effect 4.0.0-beta.83.

  • Port the proxy-based Effect builder and procedure compatibility layer to the Effect v4 prerelease line, preserving upstream oRPC parity while keeping Effect v4 runtime, error, and request-context behavior.

  • bef0bfd: docs: remove duplicate request-scoped context section

  • c94d899: Support Effect 4.0.0.

The typescript peer range is now >=5.9, matching Effect's requirement.

Effect 4.0.0 keeps a handler's failure when a finalizer also dies, so such a procedure now returns the handler's error instead of an INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR for the finalizer defect.
