fix(provider-acp-registry): prepared binary agents stay ready when the registry advances - #26543
An ACP Registry agent installed as a binary (for example devin) stops working once the registry publishes a new version. The status check looks for the executable only under the registry's newest version, so an agent that is installed and working reports "ACP Registry agent 'devin' has not been prepared on this environment." It is then greyed out in the model picker, and threads can't start.
Reproduced on main @ 5211acf with a fresh dev server:
Settings → Providers → Add provider → ACP Registry → Devin. It installs 3000.11.228 and shows "Available".
Change Devin's version in the cached registry index to 3000.11.240, the same as a later registry refresh would, then restart the server.
The card reads "Not found · ACP Registry agent 'devin' has not been prepared…", and Devin can't be selected in a new thread's model picker. tools/devin/3000.11.228/…/bin/devin is still on disk.
Change
In the binary branch of inspect(), an agent still counts as prepared when the current version's executable is missing but some version is already installed for a compatible platform target under tools/<agentId>/. resolve() already installs and launches the current registry version on demand, so binary agents now upgrade the same way npx/uvx agents already do.
Unchanged:
An agent that was never installed still reports unprepared, and so does one whose binaries were uninstalled.
When the current version is installed, its executable is still validated as before.
No new setting, persisted state, or contract change.
New test keeps a prepared binary ready after the registry advances its version in AcpRegistrySupport.test.ts:
The agent is installed at 1.2.3, then the registry moves to 1.2.4.
inspect must report ready, and resolve must launch the 1.2.4 binary.
Uninstalling must turn it back to unprepared.
On main it fails with expected { status: 'unprepared', … } to match object { status: 'ready', … }; at head it passes.
vp test run on AcpRegistrySupport.test.ts and driver.test.ts: 43 passed. vp run check:changed: pass.
Real app (web dev server, fresh database, Linux): same flow on the same data before and after.
Before (main 5211acf): the provider card shows "Not found · … has not been prepared", and Devin is greyed out in the model picker.
After (8e1858f): the card shows "Devin v3000.11.240 · Available". The background check installed tools/devin/3000.11.240, and Devin can be selected in the picker.
Not checked:
a turn with Devin itself (no Devin account on the test machine);
macOS and Windows, where the reporter is on macOS. The changed code is platform-independent apart from the existing platform-target candidates.
Evidence (web dev server, 1280×800, light theme, same data on both sides; Diff columns omitted, the change is a status text and picker availability, not layout):

…ed after registry advances
These tests reproduce #26531: once the registry index moves a prepared binary
agent to a new version, inspect reports it as unprepared.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…e registry advances
Inspect only looked for the current registry version's executable, so a
binary agent turned unprepared as soon as the registry index published a new
version. Any install of the agent for a compatible platform target now keeps
it ready; resolve already installs and launches the current version on
demand, matching how npx and uvx agents upgrade. Never-prepared and
uninstalled agents still report unprepared.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Prepared binary agents remain ready when the registry publishes a newer version. Launching still uses the existing current-version installer and its validation safeguards, keeping the change limited to readiness reporting.

Binary inspection now recognizes an installed version with a platform target supported by the current platform when the current registry-version executable is absent. A regression test covers inspection and resolution after the registry version advances, then checks the result after uninstall.

Summary
Compatible binary inspection and coverage packages/provider-acp-registry/src/server/AcpRegistrySupport.ts, packages/provider-acp-registry/src/server/AcpRegistrySupport.test.ts
Inspection checks installed version directories for a compatible platform target when the current executable is absent. It validates the current executable when present. The test covers registry advancement, resolution, and inspection after uninstall.
A removed executable can leave an agent appearing ready, and the new test can fail on Windows. These are bounded issues suitable for owner follow-up.

Explanation
The description covers the problem, reproduction steps, implementation, scope, linked issue, focused tests, manual verification, limitations, and agent attribution. It provides sufficient evidence for the reported behavior.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
The changes satisfy the coding requirements in [#26531]. Binary inspection now keeps an agent ready when the current-version executable is absent but an installed version has a compatible platform target. Current-version executables still receive the existing validation. The test covers preparation at 1.2.3, registry advance to 1.2.4, ready inspection, resolution to the 1.2.4 binary, and the unprepared state after uninstall. This matches the issue's accepted recovery behavior because resolve can install the current version on demand.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The pull request changes only binary readiness logic and its focused automated test in the ACP Registry support package. The helper handles the platform target candidates required by the existing binary layout. No unrelated feature, setting, persistence, or contract change is present in the reviewed diff.
