fix(server): multi-line guest messages are no longer refused or stored with CRLF - #26542
The guest composer posts messages as multipart form data, and form data sends every \n as \r\n. The server checked the 4,000-character limit on that inflated text. So a multi-line message under the limit, which the textarea's maxLength allowed, got 400 "The request was not valid.", and accepted multi-line messages were stored with \r\n. Reproduced on 5211acfe95: a 3,999-character message with 1,999 line breaks is refused when sent as form data and accepted when sent as JSON. Chrome 156 serializes it to 5,998 characters on the wire.
Change
readSubmission in apps/server/src/guest/http.ts turns \r\n back into \n in the multipart text field before decoding it. The length check and the stored message now see the text the guest typed. A non-string text value (for example, a repeated field) still fails decoding as before. The JSON path is unchanged.
New test in apps/server/src/guest/http.test.ts, "keeps a multi-line form message within the length limit as the guest typed it": sends a 3,999-character, 50-line message as FormData through readSubmission and expects the text back unchanged. It fails on 5211acfe95 (a 3999-character message with \n line endings came back as a rejection) and passes on this branch, together with the rest of src/guest (47 tests).
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck and tests pass.
Runtime transcript: the server's readSubmission fed real multipart and JSON bodies, before (5211acfe95) and after (bd3590f607), Node 24.22.1:
Message
Before, multipart
After, multipart
3,999 chars, 1,999 line breaks
rejected (400)
accepted, stored as typed
4,000-char paste in 80-char paragraphs
rejected (400)
accepted, stored as typed
short 3-line message
accepted, stored with 2 CRLF
accepted, stored as typed
4,000 chars, one line
accepted
accepted
4,001 chars typed (one line, or with 2,000 line breaks)
Server-only change with no render change, so there are no captures.
Not checked: the end-to-end guest page over a T3 Connect share link (creating a share needs a running Connect tunnel). Messages already stored with \r\n keep it.

…ith CRLF
These tests reproduce #26534: multipart form serialization turns each `\n`
in the guest's text into `\r\n`, so a multi-line message within 4,000
characters fails the length check (400), and a shorter one is stored with
`\r\n` line endings.

Form data sends every line break in a text field as CRLF, so a multi-line
guest message under the 4,000-character limit could be refused as too long,
and accepted ones were stored with CRLF. readSubmission now turns CRLF back
into LF in the multipart text field before decoding it.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Guest multipart messages now normalize browser-sent CRLF line breaks to LF before validation. Existing access checks, message limits, and attachment handling remain unchanged, keeping the change narrowly scoped.

readSubmission now defaults missing multipart text to an empty string and converts CRLF line endings to LF before decoding. A test checks that a long multiline message is returned unchanged.

Explanation
Issue [#26534] requires two coding outcomes. The change meets the multipart outcomes: readSubmission converts CRLF to LF before decodeSubmit, and the added test verifies that a 3,999-character multipart message is accepted and returned unchanged. The change does not meet the issue requirement for a specific error when the message is genuinely over 4,000 characters. decodeSubmit(...).pipe(Effect.option) still turns schema failures into null, and submitRoute still returns badRequest with reason: "invalid" and The request was not valid..
Resolution
Add a distinct over-length error path for guest message text. Return the required specific too_long reason and message for genuinely over-limit submissions, while preserving generic invalid responses for other decode failures. Add automated tests for over-limit JSON and multipart submissions.

Return a specific error for over-limit text.
If a client submits more than 4,000 characters, Effect.option discards the length failure. The route returns “The request was not valid.” instead of the specific error requested in issue #26534. Preserve the length failure and map it to an actionable response. (github.com)
