src/runtime/bake/DevServer.rs— pre-existing: a dev-server user with two or morefileSystemRouterTypeswhose earlier routes directory is missing gets a panic, or the wrong routes marked failed, once a frameworkserverEntryPointfails or changes. DevServer.rs:929 skipstypes.pushfor a missing directory, but DevServer.rs:972 still storesRouteIndex::init(i)from the enumerate index inroute_lookup. The server file then maps to another type's root route or pastroutes.len(). Fix: key the lookup by the index of the type actually pushed (types.len()before the push), matching theTypeIndexassigned ininit_empty. This PR adds a new path here: a missing server entry is now reported and traced throughroute_lookup.Extended reasoning...

…g the route A root is a file that a route or the framework config needs directly: a page, a layout, a framework entry point, the html file of a route. On ENOENT the dev server recorded no failure because "the importers report a deleted file". No importer reports a root. The bundle finished without a failure and the route ran: a framework route answered 500 with "Failed to load bundled module ... This is not a dynamic import, and therefore is a bug in Bun's bundler.", and a missing framework client entry point gave a client script without the entry point, or `assertion failed: self.current_chunk_len > 0` in a debug build. handle_parse_task_failure now asks one question for both graphs, File::is_root, in place of one flag test per file kind. The framework client entry point sets is_special_framework_file, which nothing set before. A failure reaches every HMR client and stays until the file is back, and the routes directory is scanned once at startup, so the delete of a page can be intentional. A scanned page or layout is a failure only while a request waits on a route that uses it, and its message says to restore the file or restart the server. The html file of a route and the framework server entry point are always a failure. The framework client entry point is a failure only when nothing was bundled for it yet: its routes stay loaded, so a failure that frees its last good code would leave their next client script empty. check_route_failures did not see a failed framework server entry point, because trace_all_route_imports traced that file for css only. Only the request that bundled the file got the failure page. It is now traced for errors too.

I re-reviewed the latest push (6d90a47) and found no new bugs; because this rewrites the ENOENT arm of handle_parse_task_failure and adds route-state-dependent reporting in the dev server, a maintainer look is still worthwhile.

Extended reasoning...
Overview
The PR touches four files: src/runtime/bake/DevServer.rs (init marks the framework client entry point with is_special_framework_file; trace_all_route_imports traces the server entry with the caller's goal when it is FindErrors; the ENOENT arm of handle_parse_task_failure is rewritten around delete_and_find_root!, classify_missing_root, and MissingRoot; a log_with_startup_scan_note helper appends a note to a cloned Log), incremental_graph.rs (File::is_root), dev_server/mod.rs (track_missing_root and the shared watch_specifier extracted from track_resolution_failure), and test/bake/dev/bundle.test.ts (six new dev-server tests plus two helpers). The latest commit is a follow-up to the prior review round.
Security risks
None specific to this change. The code path is the local dev server's handling of a deleted file reported by the bundler; the only user-facing output is the existing build-failure page with an extra note string. No new input parsing, no path construction from untrusted data beyond the existing join_abs_string_buf call that was already in track_resolution_failure.
Level of scrutiny
Moderate-to-high. The behavior depends on RouteBundle.server_state == Bundling at the time the failure arrives, on on_file_deleted leaving the bundled_files entry in place, and on which roots get the sticky global failure versus keeping last-good content. I checked each of those from the code: on_file_deleted returns early or rewires edges without removing the entry, so the post-delete get(abs_path) and the failed read before insert_failure are correct; the values_mut()[id] indexing matches the existing pattern at incremental_graph.rs:1578-1579; the cloned Log is consumed synchronously by insert_failure (SerializedFailure::init_from_log(&log.msgs)) while the original log (and its owned_strings) is still borrowed, so no dangling borrows. The remaining state-machine reasoning (which route states a deleted page should surface on, and whether an intentional delete should ever clear) is a design choice a maintainer should weigh, which is why I am deferring rather than approving.
Other factors
The new commit addresses the substantive points from the earlier round (client entry point content retention, server entry point traced with FindErrors, HMR socket close/error wiring, removal of the copied win32 skip), and each has a test in the same PR. I could not run bun bd test here (no debug build present in this checkout), so test execution is per the author's stated runs. The multi-agent hunt ran dry with no findings; one candidate (the macOS/Windows restore-after-delete path in mod.rs) was investigated and ruled out. No CODEOWNERS entry covers these paths.

error: Failed to load bundled module 'routes/two.ts'. This is not a dynamic import, and therefore is a bug in Bun's bundler.A missingclientEntryPointgives a 200 script without the entry code. File::is_root, replaces the html-only test from dev server: report a route whose html file cannot be read instead of crashing #39567. A missing root getsinsert_failureand a directory watch.check_route_failuresnow sees a failed server entry point.State::Bundling). The client entry point fails only before its first bundle: a failure frees its code.test/bake/dev/bundle.test.ts. Five fail on main, one guards an earlier push. Background
File. A build failure is afailedFileplus an entry indev.bundling_failures. Every HMR client gets it.DirectoryWatchStoreinvalidates a file when its failed specifier resolves.Notes
What a root is. A file that a route or the config needs directly: a page, a layout, the framework
serverEntryPointandclientEntryPoint, the html file of aBun.serveroute. "Has no importer" is not the test. A page that another page imports is still a root: the importer reports its own failed import, but that failure does not reach the route of the deleted page.Self-review. My first shape added a second flag test,
file.is_route, next to thehtml_route_bundle_indextest from #39567. The review rejected it, and I verified each point on my own debug build before the rework:clientEntryPointstill aborted. The client entry point now setsis_special_framework_file, a flag that nothing set before, andis_rootreads it.overlay.ts:448: "Errors during a build can only be dismissed by fixing them." The route table is static after startup, so an intentional delete never clears. On 1.4.3 that delete is silent. The new test "deleted page is not reported until a request needs its route" fails on that first shape (errorFrames: expected 0, received 1) and its first half passes on main by design. It is a guard for this decision.resolve_entry_pointfailure atbundle_v2.rs:3302. The first new test now asserts that one of its three requests does.Entry::kindfalls back toFile). Valid symlinked routes belong to bake: serve routes behind symlinks, reload every route that shares a file #42813.routes: { "/*": { dir, style } }. That door hardcodesbun-framework-react/{client,server}.tsx(server_body.rs:858), so it needs the package installed, and it reaches the same arm.Review after opening. The review of b722d2b found a regression from this PR, and I confirmed it. Sequence: serve a route, delete the client entry point, then request the client script of the route for the first time. A debug build aborted 3 of 3 times with the assertion above, and 1.4.3 serves a working script. The failure freed the code of the entry point while its routes stayed
Loaded. Now a client entry point that was bundled before keeps its last good code, as on main. The test "framework client entry point that is deleted after its route was served" guards it: it fails on b722d2b and passes on main by design. The review also showed that the server entry point got the failure page for the first request only.trace_all_route_importstraced that file for css only. The default incremental mode hides this, because a leftover entry infailures_addedforces a rebuild on every request, so the test pinsBUN_ASSUME_PERFECT_INCREMENTAL=1. I removed twowin32skips whose reason I had copied without an observed failure: both tests pass on Windows x64 with a debug build of this branch. On Windows the watcher does not report the delete of a file that was never bundled, so the first half of "deleted page is not reported until a request needs its route" holds trivially there. The client entry point door, measured. Delete the file before the first request. On 1.4.3 the page answers 200 and lists a client script. That script answers 200 with 48722 bytes of HMR runtime and without the code of the entry point. There is no error. A debug build aborts when that script is requested (
take_js_bundle_to_list). With this PR the page answers the "Build Failed" page that names the file. A client entry point that is deleted after it was served keeps the old script, as on 1.4.3.Not fixed here.
BUN-10968TODO inDirectoryWatchStore::insert, and failed imports on main share it.Loaded.Failed to load bundled moduletext. It is not a root, and its importer resolves it without an error. It needs a check infinalize_bundlethat every file of a route was delivered, likereport_html_routes_without_html. That is a separate change.scan_allhas one caller). A page created or deleted at run time needs a restart. The note on the failure says so.Why the gate is on
RouteBundle.server_state. On theresolve_entry_pointpath,handle_parse_task_failureruns insidestart_async_bundle, beforecurrent_bundleis set. Both call sites setState::Bundlingbefore they callstart_async_bundle(DevServer.rs:2030,:4941). Client-side navigation uses the same state machine (ensure_route_is_bundled).Seen and not mine. With
BUN_ASSUME_PERFECT_INCREMENTAL=1, the second request for a failed route lists each failure twice. A syntax error does the same on unfixed 1.4.3. #42733 and #39488 changecheck_route_failuresto fix it.Where this meets other open PRs. #39488 adds a
loaderargument toinsert_failure. This PR leaves one call site inhandle_parse_task_failurewhere there were four. #42840 edits the router init loop next to theis_special_framework_fileline. It also matters for behavior: a missing server entry point is now reported and traced throughroute_lookup, which holds the wrong index when an earlier router type has no directory. Measured with one such type: no panic, but the failure marks the wrong routes.Base. Rebased onto a105560. The base includes #42714 (resolver fds in watch mode), so
DirectoryWatchStore::insertnow opens the directory by path. I ran the fail-before and pass-after checks again on that base.Suites run on the debug build.
