Overview
This PR adds a single match arm to Blob::get_name in src/runtime/webcore/Blob.rs: when no name is stored and the blob is a File (is_jsdom_file), return "" instead of undefined. Plain Blobs keep returning undefined. The remaining changes are test additions covering new File([], "").name and the multipart filename="" path, plus updates to three existing assertions that previously locked in the non-spec undefined behavior.
Security risks
None. This only changes the JS value returned by the File.name getter from undefined to "" in the empty-name case. No parsing, allocation, or data-exposure paths are affected.
Level of scrutiny
Low. The source change is two lines (one comment + one match arm) using the already-established is_jsdom_file discriminator that the rest of the file relies on for File-vs-Blob behavior. The fix brings Bun in line with the File API spec (name is a USVString attribute and cannot be undefined) and with Node.js, and it resolves a real-world TypeError (f.name.endsWith(...)) in upload handlers receiving filename="" parts.
Other factors
New regression tests fail on main and pass with the change per the PR description. No CODEOWNERS apply to this path. The PR transparently flags a trivial test-assertion overlap with #32431 (the FormData "blob" default-name fix), which is a rebase concern only and doesn't affect correctness here. The bug-hunting system found no issues.

Overview
Two-line change to Blob::get_name in src/runtime/webcore/Blob.rs: adds a match arm so that when get_name_string() returns None and the blob is a File (is_jsdom_file), the getter returns "" instead of undefined. Plain Blob keeps returning undefined. The remaining three files are tests: a new direct new File([], "").name test, a new multipart filename="" parsing test, and updates to three existing assertions that previously locked in the non-spec undefined behavior.
Security risks
None. This swaps one falsy return value (undefined) for another ("") in a read-only getter. No auth, crypto, permissions, or untrusted-input handling is changed; the multipart parser itself isn't touched, only what the resulting File's .name getter returns when no name was stored.
Level of scrutiny
Low. The fix is a single guarded match arm using the existing is_jsdom_file flag — already the canonical File-vs-Blob discriminator used throughout this file (serialization, formatting, etc.). It brings Bun in line with the File API spec (USVString attribute) and Node's behavior, and the PR description correctly notes the interaction with #32431. None of the touched paths are CODEOWNER-gated.
Other factors
The bug hunter found nothing. New tests cover both entry points (constructor and multipart parser) and explicitly assert plain Blob behavior is unchanged. No outstanding reviewer comments. The change is small, self-contained, and strictly narrows divergence from spec/Node.

new File([], "").name and any File parsed from a multipart part with filename="" (what browsers send for an unfilled <input type=file>) returned undefined instead of "", so f.name.endsWith(...) threw a TypeError in upload handlers. Per the File API spec, name is a USVString and can never be undefined. Plain Blobs (not Files) keep returning undefined, matching Node.

LGTM — both earlier points are addressed: the arm now uses JSValue::js_empty_string(global_this) matching the file's convention, and the non-load-bearing new File([], "") test in blob.test.ts was dropped in favor of the multipart filename="" test that actually reaches the new None if is_jsdom_file arm.
What was reviewed
get_namematch arm ordering:Some(name)still wins for any non-Deadtag, plainBlob(is_jsdom_filefalse) still returnsundefined; only the File-with-Dead-name case changes.- New multipart test hits
Blob__setAsFilewith an empty filename (theTag::Deadproducer) and would throw on base atf.name.endsWith(...). - Relaxed
toBeString()/expect.any(String)assertions intentionally avoid pinning"blob"so #32431 won't reintroduce a conflict beyond the textual rebase already noted.
Extended reasoning...
Overview
One-line source change in src/runtime/webcore/Blob.rs::get_name: a new match arm returns JSValue::js_empty_string(global_this) when get_name_string() is None and is_jsdom_file is set, so File.prototype.name is always a string per the File API spec. Plain Blobs (not flagged as File) keep returning undefined. Test changes: FormData.test.ts gains a multipart-parse test with filename="" and an explicit append(name, blob, "") case, and three existing assertions are relaxed from toBeUndefined() to toBeString(). FormData-multipart-serialization.test.ts relaxes one round-trip name expectation to expect.any(String).
Security risks
None. This is a getter return-value change from undefined to "" on a Web API attribute; no untrusted-input parsing, allocation, or privilege boundary is touched.
Level of scrutiny
Low. The change is a single infallible match arm using the same helper (JSValue::js_empty_string) already used four times in this file (e.g. line 2059 in get_type). Match-arm ordering was checked: Some(name) handles every non-Dead tag first, so only the Tag::Dead + is_jsdom_file case is affected, and the only producer of that state on main is Blob__setAsFile with an empty/omitted filename. No CODEOWNERS entry covers these paths.
Other factors
Both concerns from the prior review round were addressed by the two commits pushed after it: the BunString::EMPTY.to_js()? idiom nit was fixed, and the blob.test.ts test that passed on base regardless of the fix was removed. The replacement test (multipart filename="" → f.name.endsWith(".png")) throws TypeError on base and passes with the fix, satisfying the "deleting the load-bearing clause breaks a test" rule. The loosened assertions are deliberately forward-compatible with the separate #32431 default-filename fix and are called out in the PR description. Test comments are concise and non-narrative.

A multipart part with
filename=""is what every browser sends for an empty<input type="file">. Bun parses it into aFilewhose.nameisundefined, so the universalfile.name.endsWith(...)pattern throws in upload handlers:In the released 1.4.0 the same getter also made
new File([], "").namereturnundefined.mainhas since changed theFileconstructor to store its name argument directly, so that path already returns""there. Onmainthe remaining way to reach the bug is aFilethatFormDataproduced with an empty filename.Cause
Blob::get_namereturnedJSValue::UNDEFINEDwheneverget_name_string()found no stored name. That is correct for a plainBlob(which has no spec'dname), but aFile'snameis a USVString attribute and can never beundefined. Onmain, the only producer of such aFileisBlob__setAsFile(src/runtime/webcore/Blob.rs:4150), which setsis_jsdom_filebut leaves the name unset when theFormDatafilename is empty. That covers a multipart part withfilename="",formData.append(name, blob)with the filename omitted, andformData.append(name, blob, "").Fix
When
get_name_string()has nothing and the blob is aFile(is_jsdom_file), return the empty string instead ofundefined. PlainBlobs keep returningundefined, matching Node.Three existing assertions asserted the old
undefinedbehavior forFiles retrieved fromFormData. They now assert only that.nameis a string (toBeString()/expect.any(String)), which is the invariant this PR introduces. A new case,formData.append("foo3", blob, ""), asserts that an explicit empty filename yields.name === "".Related: #32431 independently fixes the separate append-time default (a
Blobappended toFormDatawith no filename should become aFilenamed"blob"). This PR does not pin that value: the omitted-filename assertions here only require a string, so they stay correct when #32431 lands. The two PRs still edit the same test lines, so whichever merges second needs a trivial textual rebase.Verification
Checked the way the gate does: with
src/atmainand these tests in place, 4 tests fail (Expected: "string" Received: "undefined"and the round-tripnamemismatch). With the fix, all 156 tests in the two files pass.Rebased onto
mainonce. The rebase required one source change:mainremovedString::empty(), which the first revision used. The match arm now returnsJSValue::js_empty_string(global_this), the same helperget_typeuses a few lines above. The behavior is unchanged.
