some users are unable to login on smokey:

  • activation script creating shell symlinks in /bin and /usr/bin is run before those directories are created, thus failing to create symlinks.
  • user tries to login, /usr/bin/zsh (or whatever shell) does not exist, login fails.

initrd-nixos-activation-start[737]: ln: failed to create symbolic link '/usr/bin/': No such file or directory
initrd-nixos-activation-start[589]: Activation script snippet 'shells' failed (1)

Why not use deps = [ "binsh" "usrbinenv" ]?

i thought about this but was thinking it might be good to not overwrite things accidentally. but we already check for the shell to make sure it doesnt
match. but maybe its actually better to not check and just put it before binsh and usrbinenv to let them overwrite the shells?
