Landing page refresh: mobile app, positioning, and work categories. #178

Description

@prostevie

Summary

The current landing page at gib.work does not fully represent what Gibwork offers today. The messaging still feels closer to an early freelance marketplace, while the live product has expanded to include a mobile app, more task categories, and a complete workflow for browsing, submitting, tracking, and receiving payouts.
This issue suggests a focused update to the landing page so visitors can better understand the current Gibwork experience and the features that distinguish it from a traditional freelance marketplace.

What I Reviewed

• Live website: https://gib.work/
• Mobile app: Gibwork is available on both Google Play and the App Store, with support for browsing tasks, submitting work, tracking submissions, and receiving payouts across areas such as content, design, marketing, writing, testing, and operations.
• GitHub organization: The Gibwork organization currently has 10 public repositories, alongside an active documentation repository.

Areas That Could Be Improved

  1. The mobile app is not represented
There is currently no clear mention of the Gibwork mobile app on the landing page. There are no app store badges, screenshots, dedicated copy, navigation links, or footer links pointing visitors toward the app.
This is a missed opportunity considering the app is already live and provides a complete experience for finding and completing work.

  2. The hero does not communicate what makes Gibwork different
The current headline, "Find Talent, Find Work," is broad enough to describe almost any freelance marketplace.
The hero could do more to communicate the specific value of Gibwork, including crypto based payouts, Solana, GitHub native bounties, and the speed at which users can get paid.

  3. The work categories do not reflect the current product
The current page highlights only three categories:
    • Open Source Bounty
    • Simple Task
    • Services
The mobile app currently covers a much wider range of work, including content and social tasks, design and branding, marketing, writing and research, product testing and UX, and operations or support.
Updating the category section would give new visitors a much more accurate picture of the work available on Gibwork.

  4. Testimonials and FAQ need to be checked
During a static review, the testimonials and FAQ sections appeared without visible content.
It would be worth confirming whether these sections are connected to live data, experiencing a loading issue, or intentionally left empty. If they are not currently being populated, the options could be to add real content or temporarily remove the sections rather than displaying empty areas.

  5. Navigation could provide clearer entry points
The current navigation is quite limited and does not provide a direct route to browse available bounties or discover the mobile app.
Adding a direct "Bounties" link and an obvious app download path would make it easier for visitors to move from the landing page into the actual product.

  6. The CTA could communicate more value
"Get Started For Free" is a familiar CTA, but it does not communicate what makes Gibwork useful.
The primary actions could instead guide users toward browsing available work or posting a task, while reinforcing Gibwork's fast crypto payment experience.

Proposed Updates

  1. Rework the hero section
A possible direction for the headline is:
"Earn crypto for real work, get paid in seconds"
    Possible supporting copy:
"Bounties, tasks, and services on Solana. Post a job or start earning, from your browser or the Gibwork app."

Suggested CTAs:
Primary: "Browse Bounties"
Secondary: "Post Work"
The existing dashboard product screenshot can remain, while an additional visual introduces the mobile app so visitors immediately understand that Gibwork is available beyond the web experience.

  1. Introduce a dedicated mobile app section
Add a new section between the "brands that trust us" strip and the work category section.
    The section could include:
    • A phone mockup displaying the Gibwork app's task list or submission flow
    • A short explanation of the mobile experience
    • Google Play and App Store download badges linked to the actual store listings
    Suggested copy:
"Take Gibwork with you. Browse and submit bounties, track your submissions, and cash out from your phone."
This would make the mobile product much more visible to both existing users and visitors discovering Gibwork for the first time.

  2. Expand the work category grid
Replace the existing three card layout with six categories that better represent the work currently available through Gibwork:
    • Open Source Bounties
    • Design and Branding
    • Marketing and Growth
    • Writing and Research
    • Testing and UX Review
    • Services
This would give visitors a clearer understanding of the different ways they can participate on the platform.

  3. Review the testimonials and FAQ
Check how both sections are currently populated and determine whether the missing content is caused by a data or loading issue.
If these sections are not ready to display real content, they could be temporarily hidden until useful testimonials and answers are available.

  4. Improve the navigation and footer
Add a "Bounties" link to the main navigation that takes users directly to the live task feed.
The footer could also include Google Play and App Store badges alongside the existing social links, giving visitors another straightforward way to discover the mobile app.

Visual References

I created mockups showing the proposed direction and comparison with the current page:

The mockups are intended to demonstrate the proposed changes while keeping the existing visual direction rather than introducing a completely new design system.

Why does this Matter
A first time visitor currently has little indication that Gibwork has a mobile app, and the landing page does not clearly communicate the features that separate it from a conventional freelance marketplace.
This can be particularly important for people arriving from the app stores or GitHub bounty ecosystem. They should be able to quickly connect what they have already seen with the product presented on the website.
Making the app visible, improving the positioning, and showing the broader range of available work would give visitors a more accurate understanding of Gibwork and provide clearer paths into the platform.

Scope
This proposal is intentionally focused on content, messaging, and section level layout improvements rather than a complete visual redesign.
The changes can therefore be approached as a focused PR without rebuilding the landing page from the ground up.
