New layout makes the ui unusable #48958

Description

@JulianBissekkou

Description

What happend? -> The new UI happened.

I thought about submitting this as feature request, but keeping basic features working is not a feature imo.
Previously I was able to switch between projects easily, quickly start new tasks in a new worktree while continue working on another task in another project.
The overview was quite good and I was able to see if a project or a thread needed attention.

The new UI is a major regression in all things. The only thing that has improve is that it looks more fancy but I have no idea how people are actually shipping things with this UI.

edit: Version 2.0 has been released and it introduces worktree support and vertical tabs. This improves the overall usability a bit but its still a meaningful downgrade from what we had before. The vertical tabs are not grouped by project or by workspace/worktree which makes the sidebar a big mess after some time.

    revert on linux:

    perl -0777 -pi -e 's/new Date\(2026,8,14\)/new Date(9999,8,14)/' \
      ~/your/opencode/install/path/1.18.30/opencode

    (the idea is that you plaintext replace the cutoff date with a different date which is unreachable)

    使用 ai 写了个脚本锁定旧版本布局, 我本机测试通过了

    I used ai to write a script that locks in the old version layout, and it passed testing on my machine.

    Same. New UI is incredibly counter productive. I downgraded. Hopefully new UI will be reworked to make sidebars and original navigation a new life.

    Ye, i don't like the new ui, the old one is better

    @JSandusky

    New UI is horrid and the complete radio silence and refusal to acknowledge it's trash is plenty reason to unsub go and never top-up zen again.

    I tried version 2 and it has vertical tabs. Its still a meaningful downgrade since the old workspace workflow is not available. The sidebar shows threads which are not grouped by project or grouped by workspaces/worktrees.

    The mess has slightly shifted.

    Please revert back to old UI. New design is unusable

    @davidlopezsalvador

    Same here - the redesign broke my workflow too. While this gets sorted, the old UI can be brought back on Windows Desktop:

    https://github.com/davidlopezsalvador/opencode-legacy-patch

    How it works: a same-length patch inside app.asar moves oldInterfaceSunset to 2099, so resolveNewLayoutDesigns(retired, ...) stops hard-coding the new layout, and app-update.yml is neutralized so the auto-updater cannot silently wipe the patch.

    • Tested on 1.18.34 -> 1.18.35 (Electron 42, Windows); applies with the app open in ~2 minutes; one-command rollback (-Mode restore).
    • Fail-safe: the script searches the literal dynamically and aborts unless it finds exactly 1 occurrence.
    • Caveats: Windows desktop only; updates frozen until you restore -> update -> patch (script included); unofficial, use at your own risk.

    I maintain the repo, feedback welcome. This is only a stopgap until a permanent official toggle ships.
