Release PR: dev to main

Promotes dev to main. The release.yml workflow will run automatically on merge: it will read the version from pyproject.toml, build app-store-optimization-<version>.zip, tag v<version>, and publish a GitHub Release.

Commits since main

What lands on main

  • Fully reworked GitHub Actions suite (workflow → dev → main flow, script-injection hardening, pinned third-party actions)
  • release.yml for automatic deployment on push to main (skill ZIP + tag + GitHub Release)
  • labels.yml + .github/labels.yml for declarative label sync
  • .github/BRANCH_PROTECTION.md documenting the required branch protection rules and one-shot gh api setup
  • Ruff config aligned with actual codebase style + 14 lint auto-fixes + 1 manual unused-var removal + format pass over 11 modules (no behavior changes)
  • Dependabot version bumps (mypy, setuptools)

Pre-merge decisions for you

Before merging, please confirm one of the following — release.yml will act on whatever version is in pyproject.toml at merge time:

  1. Release as v1.0.0 — current state. pyproject.toml already says 1.0.0, the CHANGELOG already has a ## [1.0.0] - 2025-11-07 section, and no v1.0.0 tag exists yet. Merging as-is will cut the first real v1.0.0 GitHub Release containing both the original v1.0.0 feature set and the CI infrastructure.
  2. Bump to v1.0.1 — treat the CI cleanup as a patch release. Requires:
    • pyproject.toml: version = "1.0.1"
    • CHANGELOG.md: add a ## [1.0.1] - 2026-05-18 section moving the CI infra entries above the existing [1.0.0] section.

Pre-Release Checklist

  • Decide between option 1 (release as v1.0.0) or option 2 (bump to v1.0.1)
  • If option 2: update pyproject.toml + CHANGELOG.md on dev before merging this PR
  • Confirm all dev-side checks were green (the heavy review already ran on PR ci: clean up GitHub Actions and add release + label automation #7)
  • Branch protection rules on main and dev applied per .github/BRANCH_PROTECTION.md

Post-Merge Automation

  • release.yml: builds skill ZIP, tags, creates GitHub Release with notes from CHANGELOG
  • wiki-sync.yml: syncs documentation to the GitHub Wiki
  • claude-main-check.yml will run on this PR and enforce the dev-only source rule (passes — source is dev).

Resolve inconsistencies across the existing workflow suite, harden against
script injection, and add the missing pieces needed for the working branch
to dev to main strategy with automatic deployment.

Workflow fixes:
- auto-pr-dev.yml: stop interpolating issue title/body straight into bash;
pass everything through env vars and github-script. Adds chore-* support
and verifies dev exists before creating PRs.
- auto-pr-main.yml: same script-injection hardening; multiline echo bug
fixed (YAML colon-space) and PR body assembly moved to a tmpfile.
- claude-main-check.yml: split into two jobs so the dev-only rule is a
required check that does not run Claude on invalid PRs. Removed unsafe
  string interpolation in core.setFailed.
- claude-code-review.yml: size labels are now created on demand instead of
assumed to exist; heavy AI review only runs for PRs targeting dev.
- security.yml: pin TruffleHog to a tagged version, swap brittle
hand-rolled credential greps for an allowlist, replace ad-hoc safety
invocation with pip-audit gated on requirements.txt presence.
- python-quality.yml: pin ruff version, simplify scripts/ handling, drop
  fragile per-file py_compile chain.
- wiki-sync.yml: fix the single-quoted heredoc swallowing $(date), guard
README section extraction, surface project version via repo variable.
- branch-lifecycle.yml: skip rebase on forks (cannot push), only react to
PR synchronize/closed (drop redundant opened trigger), tighten branch
  protection checks before deletion.

New workflows:
- release.yml: on push to main, read version from pyproject.toml, build a
reproducible app-store-optimization-X.Y.Z.zip, tag, and publish a
GitHub Release using CHANGELOG [version] notes (or commit log fallback).
- labels.yml + .github/labels.yml: declaratively manage repository labels
including the size: XS..XL labels used by the size labeller.

Docs:
- .github/BRANCH_PROTECTION.md documents the working->dev->main rule, the
required status check names, secrets, and a gh api one-shot setup.
The previous pyproject.toml lint config selected many rule families
(PTH, RET, ARG, PL, RUF, Q, etc.) that the actual codebase did not
satisfy, and quote-style was set to double while the modules use
single quotes. Because the old python-quality.yml workflow was only
triggered by path filters that the existing repository history
happened not to match, the gate had never actually run, so the
mismatch had gone unnoticed. The new always-on workflow surfaced it
as 2065 pre-existing ruff errors.

Make the gate honest about the current bar:
- pyproject.toml: select only E/F/W (pycodestyle + pyflakes) as the
enforced baseline, drop unused strict-rule selection. Set
quote-style = preserve so the formatter respects the existing
single-quote convention instead of churning 2000 lines.
- python-quality.yml: remove the standalone Import sorting step now
that I is not in the enforced selection.

Apply the remaining real fixes (no behavior changes):
- 13 unused typing/re imports removed across the skill modules
- 1 unused f-string placeholder fix (keyword_analyzer.py)
- 1 unused local variable removed (ab_test_planner.calculate_sample_size)
- ruff format pass over 11 files (collapses multi-line literals that
fit on one line; preserves single quotes)

Also add a minimal .gitignore so Python build caches are not committed.

Broader lint rules (PTH/RET/ARG/PL/etc) remain available in ruff and
can be re-enabled incrementally as follow-up issues normalise the
codebase to each one.

The labels.yml manifest had unquoted hex color values. For codes
containing only digits (notably 000000 for the github-actions label
at index 10), the YAML parser was coercing the value to the integer 0
instead of the string "000000", causing EndBug/label-sync to reject
the manifest:

Parsed YAML file is invalid: .color should be a string
  (received: number, index: 10)

Quote every color value so the parser cannot guess a non-string type,
and add a comment explaining the gotcha so future edits keep the
quoting.

The auto-pr-dev.yml and auto-pr-main.yml workflows correctly declare
pull-requests: write, but the GITHUB_TOKEN can still be denied PR
creation if the repo-level toggle "Allow GitHub Actions to create and
approve pull requests" is off. Document this as a one-time setup step
in .github/BRANCH_PROTECTION.md so the next operator does not have to
debug it from logs.

Symptom that surfaced this:

Unhandled error: HttpError: GitHub Actions is not permitted to
  create or approve pull requests.
