My name's Khai, and I'm a Cloud & Infra Engineer and upcoming Software Engineer Intern @ Mastercard who specializes in concurrency and distributed systems. I work primarily with Go, Java/SpringBoot, Python, PostgreSQL, Typescript, Kubernetes, and AWS. Essentially, I make applications thousands of people can actually use.
I'm currently studying Computer Science and Media Studies, and working as a Software Engineer Intern at Nordic Analytics and a Software Developer at Pomona's ITS department. Below, you'll find the current projects I'm working, what languages I'm most comfortable in, and more!
Created a massive data pipeline, processing raw data from Spotify to extract features from popular songs. These previews are later used by weighted embeddings to rank the songs based on similarity, and are all stored using in a vector database using pgvector and PostgreSQL. The Flask API connected to this database, which is stored on AWS using RDS, is contained and processed through AWS Lambda, ECS, Batch, and S3.
Leading a team of 5 developers to build a social platform for students to rate foods, check the best three offerings, and pick the best dining halls to eat at for the day. Building a data pipeline and REST API to collect reviews and foods at dining halls using Spring and Postgres. Frontend is built with TypeScript and React to process student reviews. Deploying database to AWS using Docker, AWS RDS, Lambda, S3, and ECS, then deploying frontend to Vercel.
Building a faculty research where 10,000 students will be able to easily find research oppurtinities with professors. Professors can set their privacy levels to indicate whether or not they'd like to look for new students, and students can sort by major, interest, grade year, pre-reqs, etc...
Using React, Figma, and TypeScript to build the frontend and SpringBoot/Java to deploy the backend. Setup cloud infrastructure and sponsored 100s of professors research for 1000s of students to find and get proper employment from.
Building a website that allows chess players to visualize their game statistics against other players in real time.
I love chess. I'm not the best player on earth, but I've always found it so fun. Chess really helped me understand many algorithims such as min-max and alpha-beta-pruning. It's also just so fun and relaxing, highly recommend
