Closes #2229.

The problem

On Nuxt 4 the module is skipped entirely:

WARN Module vue-recaptcha is disabled due to incompatibility issues:

meta.compatibility pins nuxt: "^3.0.0", so Nuxt 4 treats the module as incompatible and never calls setup(). Nothing is registered: no components, no composables, no plugin.

The change

  • meta.compatibility.nuxt becomes >=3.0.0, the form Nuxt's module authoring guide recommends for modules that support both majors.
  • @nuxt/kit and @nuxt/schema accept ^3.9.1 || ^4.0.0.
  • Added a nuxt4 keyword beside the existing nuxt3 one.

No other source changes: the module only uses defineNuxtModule, addComponent, addImports, addPlugin, createResolver, useLogger and useNuxt, all unchanged in kit 4.

Relation to #2228

That PR raises @nuxt/kit/@nuxt/schema to ^4.0.0 and moves the playground and docs to Nuxt 4, but it leaves meta.compatibility at ^3.0.0, so on its own it would not fix #2229: the module would still be disabled on Nuxt 4, and the range would also drop Nuxt 3 support. This PR is the one-line meta fix plus a range that keeps both majors working. The two can land in either order.

Verification

With packages/playground-nuxt, building the library first and then the playground:

nuxt before after
4.5.2 Module vue-recaptcha is disabled due to incompatibility issues, nothing registered builds clean; RecaptchaCheckbox and useChallengeV2 present in .nuxt, plugin in the server bundle
3.21.11 builds clean builds clean, same registrations

moon run vue-recaptcha:test-unit passes (2 files, 3 tests). moon run vue-recaptcha:lint fails on v3 as well, with tsconfig.json: Option 'moduleResolution=node10' has been removed, so that looks unrelated to this change.

I left the playground on Nuxt 3 so the lockfile stays untouched. Happy to bump it here instead, or to rebase on #2228 if you would rather take that first.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Compatibility
    • Added support for Nuxt 4 alongside Nuxt 3.
    • Broadened the accepted Nuxt version range for the module.
    • Updated package metadata to include Nuxt 4 compatibility.

Nuxt 4 refuses to load the module and logs "Module vue-recaptcha is
disabled due to incompatibility issues", because meta.compatibility
pins nuxt to ^3.0.0. Widen it to >=3.0.0, as Nuxt's module authoring
guide recommends, and allow @nuxt/kit and @nuxt/schema 4.x alongside
3.x.

CodeRabbit blocks several paths by default. You can override this behavior by explicitly including those paths in the path filters. For example, including **/dist/** will override the default block on the dist directory, by removing the pattern from both the lists.

The Nuxt module package now advertises Nuxt 4 support. Its Nuxt dependencies accept Nuxt 3 or Nuxt 4, and its compatibility declaration accepts Nuxt versions 3.0.0 and later.

Good catch from the bot on the lockfile: the packages/vue-recaptcha importer still pinned ^3.9.1, which a frozen-lockfile install rejects (pnpm defaults to --frozen-lockfile under CI).

Updated just those two specifier lines by hand, leaving the resolved versions alone. Running the whole lockfile through pnpm install --lockfile-only here rewrote ~270 unrelated lines with my pnpm build, so I kept the diff to the two lines that actually changed. CI=true pnpm install --frozen-lockfile passes.
