MCP Client

A simple command-line MCP (Model Context Protocol) client built with Python and the Anthropic API. It connects to any MCP server, discovers its available tools, and lets Claude use them to answer your queries.

Setup

  1. Install dependencies:

    uv sync

  2. Create a .env file in this folder:

    ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=your-api-key-here

Usage

Run the client, pointing it at any MCP server script:

uv run client.py path/to/server.py

Example (connecting to the companion weather-mcp-server):

uv run client.py ../weather/weather.py

Then type natural-language queries at the prompt. Claude will call the server's tools as needed to answer.

Requirements

  • Python (see .python-version)
  • An Anthropic API key with available credits
