I am the author of libheif and libde265, which are the most widely used open source libraries for handling HEIC and AVIF images. These libraries are used in basically all open source software that can handle these file formats, and they play an integral role in handling these file formats on the internet. I also work together with the development teams of the major web browsers in order to ensure compatibility.

Since I work as an independent developer, I need your support to be able to allocate time for these open source projects.

Your sponsorship will be used to work on these projects:

  • continuing maintenance of the libraries to keep them up-to-date with, e.g., changes in the specification, new requirements of the operating system,
  • support for alternative codecs (especially hardware/GPU codecs) to improve encoding speed and energy efficiency,
  • faster and high-quality color conversions.

I am also open for customization work or consulting, just contact me.

At $5,000 a month I can dedicate two days per week to libheif and libde265: fixing and releasing security issues during working hours instead of evenings and weekends, keeping up with the HEIF specification and platform changes, and developing new features.
