The format is based on Keep a Changelog and this project adheres to Semantic Versioning.

  • [SIL.Core.Clearshare] Added new classes MetadataCore, CreativeCommonsLicenseInfo, and CustomLicenseInfo; these are Winforms-free base versions of the classes Metadata, CreativeCommonsLicense, and CustomLicense.

  • [SIL.Core.Clearshare and SIL.Windows.Forms.Clearshare] Added LicenseUtils and LicenseWithImageUtils to handle the FromXmp method for creating a license. LicenseUtils constructs a bare license object that is Winforms-independent; LicenseWithImageUtils constructs a Winforms-dependent license object with access to license images.

  • [SIL.Core.Clearshare] New methods "GetIsStringAvailableForLangId" and "GetDynamicStringOrEnglish" were added to Localizer for use in LicenseInfo's "GetBestLicenseTranslation" method, to remove LicenseInfo's L10NSharp dependency.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms.Keyboarding] Removed Timer-based deferred IME conversion status restore from WindowsKeyboardSwitchingAdapter, which disrupted active Chinese Pinyin IME compositions (LT-22442). Added diagnostic tracing for keyboard switching and IME state.
  • [SIL.DictionaryServices] Fix memory leak in LiftWriter
  • [SIL.WritingSystems] Fix IetfLanguageTag.GetGeneralCode to handle cases when zh-CN or zh-TW is a prefix and not the whole string.
  • [SIL.WritingSystems] More fixes to consistently use 繁体中文 and 简体中文 for Traditional and Simplified Chinese native language names, and Chinese (Traditional) and Chinese (Simplified) for their English names.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms.i18n, SIL.Core.Desktop.i18n] BREAKING CHANGE: Move L10NSharpLocalizer from Windows.Forms to Core.Desktop so it can be accessed without Winforms dependency.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms.Clearshare] BREAKING CHANGE: Made LicenseInfo class independent of Windows Forms and moved it from SIL.Windows.Forms.Clearshare to SIL.Core.Clearshare.

    • The FromXmp method was moved to LicenseUtils and LicenseWithImageUtils to construct Winforms-independent and Winforms-dependent license types respectively.
    • The FromToken method was moved from LicenseInfo to LicenseWithLogo, so it can return the Winforms-dependent license types. FromToken is only used in libpalaso tests and examples, and a Winforms-independent version of this method is not needed.
    • The GetImage method from LicenseInfo was moved to the ILicenseWithImage interface, which is implemented by CreativeCommonsLicense and CustomLicense.
    • GetBestLicenseTranslation in LicenseInfo now uses Localizer instead of using L10NSharp.LocalizationManager.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms.Clearshare] Winforms-independent metadata and license functionality of Metadata, CreativeCommonsLicense, and CustomLicense were moved to new classes MetadataCore, CreativeCommonsLicenseInfo, and CustomLicenseInfo in SIL.Core.Clearshare. Metadata, CreativeCommonsLicense, and CustomLicense inherit from the Bare Winforms-free metadata and license versions.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms.Tests.Clearshare] Many tests from MetadataTests in SIL.Windows.Forms.Clearshare were moved to MetadataCoreTests in Core.Clearshare. Tests that use Winforms-specific versions of methods (e.g. Metadata.FromFile) were retained. Added checks to test that the correct (Winforms-dependent) License objects are created when loading from xmp, round tripping a license in a png, or saving metadata to tag.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms.Tests.Clearshare] LicenseInfoTests renamed LicenseWithLogoTests.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] BREAKING CHANGE: Upgraded to L10nSharp v9. Any clients which also use L10nSharp must also upgrade to v9.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] BREAKING CHANGE: Removed optional moreSelected parameter from ToolStripExtensions.InitializeWithAvailableUILocales method. This parameter was no longer being used. Clients that want to have a More menu item that performs a custom action will now need to add it themselves.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] BREAKING CHANGE: LocalizationIncompleteDlg's EmailAddressForLocalizationRequests is no longer autopopulated from LocalizationManager. A new optional constructor parameter, emailAddressForLocalizationRequests, can be used instead. If not supplied, the "More information" controls will be hidden.

  • [SIL.Core.Desktop] Added an optional userAgentHeader parameter to DoHttpGetAndGetProxyInfo to allow a client to mimic a real browser if necessary.

  • [SIL.Media] ISimpleAudioWithEvents now extends ISimpleAudioSession. Technically a breaking change, but the only class in this library that implements it already implemented ISimpleAudioSession. Any custom implementations by clients would very likely have implemented both as well.

  • [SIL.Core] Changed the Message property on NonFatalErrorReportExpected (presumably intended for use only in tests) to return the message of the previous reported non-fatal exception if no ordninary non-fatal message has been reported.

  • [SIL.Media] In the event of an audio playback error in Windows, the non-fatal exception reported will also include an accompanying (localizable/customizable) user-friendly message.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] In .NET 8 builds, removed Scanner and Camera options from the Image Toolbox.

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Improved SILAboutBox to help prevent navigation issues when the supplied HTML contains links but lacks both a <base target="_blank"> element and explicit target="_blank" attributes on the links. If the Navigating event is not handled, such links would otherwise open within the About box itself, often resulting in unexpected behavior. A sensible fallback is now applied automatically to the HTML, and in debug mode, a developer warning is shown.
  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Documented previously undocumented feature: SILAboutBox constructor can accept either a filename or a file URI.

Fixed

  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Changed build date in SILAboutBox to be computed using the last write time instead of creation time.
  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Made FadingMessageWindow implement all UI logic on the main UI thread in a thread-safe way. Fixes crashes like SP-2340.
  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Made ContributorsListControl more threadsafe. Possibly fixes crashes like SP-2353 or at least makes them less likely.
  • [SIL.WritingSystems] Added check to Subtag.Equals to ensure two subtags being compared are of same derived type. This could potentially be a subtle breaking change in the unlikely event that someone was intentionally relying on the previous errant behavior.
  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Fix loss of precision in Animator.FrameRate getter.
  • [SIL.Core] Changed ReplaceSubstringInAttr.Visit to use StringComparison.Ordinal rather than the default (StringComparison.CurrentCulture), and also made it correctly return true when the replacement was made successfully. Although either of these could potentially be a BREAKING CHANGE, in practice, it seems unlikely that anyone would have been relying on CurrentCulture comparisons, and although the return value is used, it seems to be used merely to set a flag that is returned from the callers, and the callers I could find for those methods all appear to ignore the returned value. In any case, if someone were relying on the return value, it's unlikely they could have found it helpful to have it return false unconditionally.

  • [SIL.TestUtilities] Made FluentAssertXml classes use "Assert.That" so they can work in clients that use NUnit 4.
  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Removed protected members from FadingMessageWindow: MsgThread, MsgForm, Text, MsgPoint, and ShowForm. (The underlying implementation needed to be changed, and the existing implementation was such that these members would be unlikely to have been meaningful or helpful in a derived class anyway.)
  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Added the stated requirement that FadingMessageWindow.Show be called on the UI thread.

  • [SIL.Core] BREAKING CHANGE (potentially): Changed behavior of DateTimeExtensions.ParseDateTimePermissivelyWithException (now deprecated) to try to interpret the date according to either the Gregorian calendar or the Buddhist calender in order to get the date to fall within a reasonable expected range (from 1/1/1900 through one day in the future). This means that depending on the current culture, dates might be interpreted differently from before. The known places in SIL code where this method is used seems to be for dates in the recent past (modern times); hence the default range. A new overload was added that will allow callers with other needs to specify a different range.

  • [SIL.DictionaryServices] Deprecated the second parameter of GetHumanReadableIdWithAnyIllegalUnicodeEscaped: Added GetHumanReadableIdWithAnyIllegalUnicodeEscaped(LexEntry entry) and marked GetHumanReadableIdWithAnyIllegalUnicodeEscaped(LexEntry entry, Dictionary<string, int> idsAndCounts) as [Obsolete].
  • [SIL.Windows.Forms] Marked the misspelled HeaderLabel.ShowWindowBackgroudOnTopAndRightEdge as [Obsolete] in favor of correctly spelled ShowWindowBackgroundOnTopAndRightEdge.
  • [SIL.Core] Marked the misspelled XmlUtils.ConvertMultiparagraphToSafeXml as [Obsolete] in favor of correctly spelled ConvertMultiParagraphToSafeXml.
