This is a continuation of CachyOS/proton-cachyos#250 - as a brief recap, we determined that the chunk size logic was causing crashes in Trails in the Sky SC's opening. Those crashes are now fixed in the latest commits.
no rush, whenever you get to it. if you can give glorious arrives another go too, i still expect it to oom but the chunks are smaller now so it might get further.
That's indeed what it does, it both gets further and is somewhat smoother, even if it eventually OOMs.
Edit 2: the experimental DXVK-Sarek seems to disagree with MangoHud on Japanese Rural Life Adventure - having MH enabled results in a black but not frozen screen, which can be interacted with but where the game isn't displayed. This doesn't happen with the DXVK-Sarek in the latest Proton-CachyOS that we tested (and is frankly quite marginal in importance).
thats strange, none of the changes i did should affect mangohud in any way. could you grab a log with it enabled? and does it happen on other games too or just that one?
I've been jumping the gun there, looks like JRLA has a chance of blackscreening at launch even on the latest Proton-CachyOS stable. I'm thinking it's the game that's not playing nice with i3wm, even though I have it set to float instead of tile (and I still had to hack up a per-window rule because leaving the game to its own devices means it blackscreens when it loses focus as one switches workspaces, if and only if the in-game resolution is set to "fullscreen").
In addition to the caveat above, it also seems like the black screen is intermittent, so the report could be a tad useless as I can't determine a real cause. Here I have two logs for you, one with a blackscreen and one that works - no settings were changed between the runs.
