vulkan loader and mesa zink freedreno icd fail to install

Everything else in the script installs fine

The GPU acceleration actually seems to work given the performance in webgl tests in Firefox, but I'm still concerned about the errors

Thanks for the log — it had everything needed. There were actually three separate bugs, now fixed on main.

1. mesa-zink was skipped for the wrong reason. The log line was SKIP (conflict with ndk-sysroot). Its real declaration is:

Conflicts: libmesa, ndk-sysroot (<< 23b-6), mesa

My conflict check stripped the version constraint and treated ndk-sysroot as an unconditional conflict. Your ndk-sysroot is far newer than 23b-6, so there was never a conflict. Conflicts are now evaluated with dpkg --compare-versions.

2. vulkan-loader-android failed the whole transaction. The conflict is declared on the other side:

Package: vulkan-loader-generic
Provides: vulkan-loader-android
Conflicts: vulkan-loader-android

My check only looked at conflicts declared by the package being installed, so it never saw this. And since vulkan-loader-generic already provides vulkan-loader-android, requesting the android one was pointless anyway — you already had what you needed. The script now installs vulkan-loader-generic directly, and also treats a package as satisfied when something installed already provides it.

3. The dpkg overwrite error was the real design mistake.

mesa-vulkan-icd-freedreno (main repo, Mesa 26) and mesa-zink-vulkan-icd-freedreno (TUR, Mesa 22.0.5) ship the same filenames with no Replaces between them, so installing both can only ever fail. The script was asking for both.

The underlying point is that the TUR mesa-zink stack is obsolete. Termux's own mesa has shipped lib/dri/zink_dri.so since Mesa 23, so GALLIUM_DRIVER=zink works against current Mesa — no downgrade needed. step_gpu now picks one stack and stays on it: stock Mesa by default, TUR only if Mesa genuinely lacks Zink or the device already has mesa-zink from an earlier run.

On your instinct that it worked anyway — you were right. Those failures were loud but not fatal. mesa-zink still got pulled in as a dependency, and Turnip was installed, which is why WebGL performed well. Re-running the script now gives you the same acceleration on Mesa 26 instead of 22, with a clean log.

If you get a chance to re-run it on the S931B I'd appreciate knowing whether it comes back clean.
