Option to customise barcode scanning area #1429

Description

@turmoni

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I have been printing out label stickers with both QR codes and 1D barcodes on them. The QR codes are for those items in larger bags, whilst the 1D barcodes go on 50x10mm labels for attaching to folders that contain densely packed SMD components. This dense packing means that up to five barcodes might be within the barcode scanning area when it's square.

Describe the solution you'd like
I would like to be able to switch the active scanning area to one that is more suited to 1D barcodes, i.e. significantly wider than it is tall.

Describe alternatives you've considered
At the moment I have to physically cover up any other barcodes that fit within the window.

There are two possible alternative features that would also work for me (or at least help), but I suspect they're rather more complex to implement and not as widely applicable:

  • Report every item that has a code within the scanning window, rather than just one
  • Implement a "find component" mode which will continually scan until a specified component's barcode is seen

Additional context
I'm happy to work on this myself, it doesn't seem particularly complex, I just want to make sure that it's something that would be accepted and if there are any special considerations that would need to be taken into account before doing it.
