Highlights

• Raster Image Import - import and convert PNG/JPG images into editable SVG components.
• Canvas Context Menu - added a right-click menu to the canvas as you would expect in any editor (sorry it took so long)
• Registration Marks - add alignment marks that count as any colour when exporting, for easy alignment. Feature request: multi color quality of life #11
• Contour Fill - a new fill pattern that traces the shape's outline like topographic lines
• Per-project Tool Configuration - each project can now have its own tool settings
• Rename/Reorder Elements - adjust layer heirarchy and rename elements
• Update Checker - checks Github for new releases
• Text Editing Improvements - proper cursor editing, bold/italic styling, and fonts/sizes can be changed without losing focus
• Removed GCodePlot - Polycut.Core is now mature enough to no longer require GCodePlot as an alternative
• True Portable Mode - Added ability to store configs next to the exe rather than in the LocalAppData folder
• Lots of other small improvements and bug fixes

Changes

• Raster Image Import
  • Added support for importing raster images (PNG/JPG etc) and converts them into SVGs using a modified version of VTracer.
  • There are a lot of options for controlling the import, but the defaults should work fairly well for most situations.
  • Import Preview is fully interactive and includes the ability to exclude regions from the import as well.

 

• Canvas Context Menu
  • Right-clicking the canvas now opens a context menu with most common actions:
    • Cut / Copy / Paste / Select All
    • Stroke / Fill colour pickers - adjust for the current selection without having to use the sidebar
    • Combine Operations - Union / Intersect / Subtract / Exclude
    • Arrange - Bring Forward / Send Backward / Bring To Front / Send To Back
    • Canvas Zoom Controls - zoom in/out, fit-to-window and 100% (right-clicking on the canvas no longer resets the zoom; that is now handled by middle-click)

 

• Registration Marks
  • New canvas tool for drawing markers that count as any colour when exporting, so you can align materials between passes, foiling runs, and multi-colour jobs. Feature request: multi color quality of life #11
  • They're animated because why not

 

• Contour Fill
  • New fill pattern: Contour - traces lines at a constant distance inside the shape outline, like topographical lines
  • Built using Clipper 2 because I'm not smart enough to figure this out myself

• Update Checker

  • PolyCut now checks GitHub for new releases and shows a notification with a link when one is available. This only happens when you start the program

• Tool Configuration per Project

  • Tool configuration is now saved as part of the project file, so each project can keep its own tool settings

• True Portable Mode

  • If you do not want PolyCut to store it's config files in LocalAppData, you can now simply place PolyCut.exe in a folder called "Polycut" (any caps) and it will instead keep all config files in that folder.

Improvements

• Text Editing Improvements

  • Generally made the text editor less cursed by improving multiple areas, especially:
    • Text cursor now works
    • Font and size can be set while a text element is being edited, not just before or afterwards
    • Added Bold and Italic support
    • Consolidated the sidebar font/size pickers into the on-canvas editing overlay
    • Improved font-picker performance (literally 10x faster on cold-open)
    • Things generally just work more intuitively - let me know if there are still issues though!

• Improved Canvas Selection

  • Selection now works better for filled and transparent shapes. Most importantly, you can click in dead space to select objects undernaeth

• Usability

  • Element renaming - double-click an element's name in the sidebar to rename it
  • Reordering support - you can move objects up/down the layer list using the sidebar, context menu or hotkeys (Ctrl + [, Ctrl + ])
  • Boolean operations now inherit the fill/stroke details of the first base shape

• Canvas Background

  • New setting to choose between Light, Dark and Translucent (default) canvas backgrounds

Tweaks

• Long element names no longer overflow the sidebar
• Strokes are slightly padded to make them easier to click/select
• Minor cursor tweaks when selecting/editing text
• Default stroke thickness when drawing changed from 1 to 0.5
• Sidebar item icons now use the element's fill (or stroke) colour
• Holding Ctrl while drawing with the pen tool now prevents smoothing for hard, sharp lines

Bug Fixes

• Fixed the grid being hidden behind the preview page background
• Fixed Extract One Colour not working (Again? I swear this breaks constantly and I don't know why)
• Fixed ghost elements being created when the mouse leaves the canvas while dragging out a shape
• Fixed some instances where combinations of creation/undo/redo would result in a 0×0 shape
• Fixed boolean operations on rotated text causing the text to shift
• Fixed SVG import defaulting to a stroke width of 1 when the file didn't specify one
• Fixed the ColorPicker on Linux/WINE, and an inverted WINE check that disabled the eyedropper on Windows

Binaries

PolyCut.exe (15MB):		    Smaller size, but requires .NET 10 Runtime to be installed
PolyCut.mono.exe (67MB):	Fully self-contained and embeds the necessary .NET 10 libraries
