Syncing Fails

There's this issue I experienced with annotating pdf in Episteme, that somehow after 2 or days of continually editing a pdf sized 70MB in my Tablet and syncthing syncing it cross device to my phone, my phone's Episteme app failed to sync and stopped recognising that very annotation file.
And if I try to annotate it using my phone, it then syncs BUT it overwrites that tablet's annotation file because the annotation file name is same.
This way all the annotations get lost. Fortunately, Syncthing keeps file versions so I could recover those.

That issue didnt occur again, although, I notice that after annotating, the folder's metadata immediately doesnt get synced which did use to before. Same is in the latest release 1.0.53 oss.
Also, one more issue occurred after updating to 1.0.53 oss, that zoom snaps back unless the full page width occupies screen. I'm creating the issue with screen recording.

what is delayed? annotation update on same device? like you create an annotation and which folder updates with a delay?

When I'm annotating a pdf and then exit the pdf, I wait a little wile so that metadata gets synced showing the current time of exiting the pdf. I noticed that it wasnt happening instantly so I waited for 15 20 mins and then checked again, it was still showing the previous sync timing. But when I leave the app for maybe an hour or so and check again, then it shows the current time.

1. Opened the app a fresh day at 1:02pm and checked the last meta sync timing. Shows 1:02pm.
2. Started annotating the pdf for 10 mins. Exited the pdf at 1:12pm. Waited for meta sync automatically, but still showed 1:02pm.
3. Exited the app and waited about 20 mins and opened the app again at 1:32pm. Still the last meta sync time shows as 1:02pm.
4. Waited for a few hours and opened the app at 3pm. Now it shows last meta sync time as 3pm.

Maybe this is normal and I am not understanding the way it syncs the local folder.

Did it sync correctly after it showed the correct time?

Yes it does. But the issue is that I switch between my tablet and phone when either is charging, so a drawback that I experienced for it not syncing properly was that before annotations from tab could sync in few hours, I opened the app in phone to read the same pdf unaware of the sync happened or not. But those latest annotations didnt show up in phone and so when I tried refreshing meta, it synced phone over tab and all those annotations were gone. This was happening for quite sometime until I became aware of this. And syncthing couldn't be at fault because I know I have been using it since Syncthing-Fork first came out and is updated.

So now, to recover those annotations I went into syncthing versions and replaced those phone annotation files for both tab and phone. But then, tab would always sync and phone would always show "Syncing Failed" and there was no way I could get those annotations to show on phone whatsoever.

you said the annotation loss didn't happen again so the current problem is just the delay right? also can you remove the folder and add again in the latest app version and tell me your observations?

Yes, because I manually synced it every time since then so that there would be no sync errors.
And I think if the sync starts promptly after exiting the pdf and maybe the app as well, that would take care of it.
Plus, that would mean to worry one thing lesser while making notes.

It works better now!
The zoom snap issue is fixed.
The sync issue is fixed.

But I have a doubt.
The scenario I tried is as follows:

1. Opened and annotates a pdf in my tab at 5:47pm and then closed the app.
2. Opened same in my phone after 2-4 minutes to view the annotations and it showed and then closed the app
3. Opened for 2nd annotation in tablet at 5:58pm and closed after that.
4. Opened in phone to view the same at 6:03pm and it showed

Repeated the process total three times and it was successful both sides BUT with one notiecable thing which now I think I'm not understanding.
In the library navigation, under the folders section, the folder always showed the last sync at 5:47pm, the time at which I opened the pdf for first time.

But in the phone, it shows it to be exactly the same time I last opened the pdf in phone.

So maybe, the device shows last synced timing according to when it sensed the changes to apply.
Although this is fine, but how can I make sure that my tablet has synced the latest annotations already so that it would be safe to open in phone afterwards??

oh that time is not actually for sync, its the time the folder was last scanned for new books or annotations, so updates on every app startup and other triggers. I will change it to say last scan and not sync

The main idea was that this whole feature is called synced folders so that's why it says sync but I can see how it can be confusing
